My Life, My Joy, My Pain Page. 13

“We had to fight for respect”

Growing up in Monroe Heights I experienced fighting for the first time like really fighting and it was like the older kids were betting lol. its a funny story because my only opponent was a class mate and I believe I was in kindergarten at the time. I hate that I don’t remember the name of this particular friend because if he read this page we would laugh for days just off the memories.

I can actually remember we were going to Eisenhower Elementary lol where i actually first tasted spinae thinking it was good because Popeye ate it and he was every kids favorite cartoon Character but I was obviously wrong that shit was disgusting lol but anyway back to the story.

My friend and I were really close like every day we napped next to each other in our knapsack during nap time and talked till we got in trouble. this took place everyday yet we fought almost everyday seem like. We had gotten to the point to where we actually liked to fight after school and i guess because we were partly forced and influenced lol half the bus bet on me the other half bet on him so like I said we were almost expected to fight. In class during nap time we would ask each other “You wanna fight today”? lol man we were wild but that was all that came with being raised in one of the roughest hoods in the city.

Growing up in Monroe Heights you had to learn how to fight hell even the girls knew how to fight so if you wasn’t on point you may become a target in that hood. Sometimes I wish I can go back to those days as a jitt in Monroe Heights especially during this lil era because I honestly don’t remember who use to win the fight lol if I could remember exactly I wouldn’t surely tell you  yet from what I know it was life as a lil man becoming tough. Being soft in my hood got you nowhere but beat up constantly and I like to come outside too much so I was gone fight lol.

I'm Marvel Saffold, I'm a Witblogger out of Riviera Beach, FL. I'm also a Rapper, many years ago I wasn't aware of the power of literature. Specially my literature, until I started exploiting writing in different format--from music to poetry. Having made that transition--I even surprised myself many of times. The real kicker is I tasted the power prior--in the 9th Grade. I will forever love Ms. Saunders, my English Teacher at William T. Dwyer; because it was then, in her Class that I started mastering writing literature. Years later I'm finally realizing how much of an influence Her Class had in my writing process even in music. I found myself using all that I've learned from Ms. Saunders. I love writing no matter what it is.
